With over 30 years of experience in private practice, education,
public health, media and consulting, Casey is best recognized for
her work in translating credible findings of oral-systemic research
into everyday patient care. Critical appraisal of the scientific
evidence in support of oral-systemic relationships and its
implementation is the mainstay of her well published writing and
highly attended international lectures.
Hein is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Periodontics and the Director for
Interprofessional Oral-Systemic Curriculum Development at the University of Manitoba, in
Winnipeg, Canada. In this position Casey is developing the first curriculum specifically related
to oral-systemic relationships for medical, nursing, pharmacy and dietician students. Hein was
the founder and Chief Editor of Grand Rounds in Oral-Systemic Medicine™, is currently the
Editor-in-Chief of Inside Dental Hygiene, and editor of a special section committed to oralsystemic
research in the Compendium of Continuing Education in Dentistry.
Casey also maintains her residence in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains where she has a joint
appointment at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine as an Assistant Professor
in Craniofacial Biology and Associate Professor in Dental Hygiene. She also serves on the
advisory boards of several companies and as an independent consultant to the dental industry and
think tanks. Casey is a member of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association, the Colorado
Dental Hygienists’ Association, the American Dental Education Association and the Speakers
and Consultants Network. She holds a BS degree in Dental Hygiene from West Virginia
University and an MBA from Loyola (Baltimore). In 2005 Dentsply Professional recognized
Casey as a “Distinguished Dental Professional” and Dentistry Today voted Casey among the Top
100 Clinicians in Continuing Education for the last 4 consecutive years, 2006, 2007, 2008 and
