A dynamic leader noted for her passion in addressing issues of concern to the community, Dr. Hanan has devoted her life to bringing real solutions to the lives of L.A. area residents in health and education. Her many hats include head of an international literacy program as well as a drug rehabilitation and mental health clinic. As executive director of the Compton-based World Literacy Crusade, Dr. Hanan Islam oversees a network of 27 chapters of the popular literacy program in six countries. Under her stewardship, World Literacy Crusade has increased its annual income by 300 percent, received contracts with state and county agencies for delivery of services and opened a new site in India. Dr. Hanan is co-founder of the American Health and Education Clinics, a certified drug and alcohol treatment and alternative mental heath facility. AMHEC is the only certified out-patient drug-free, drug detoxification center created to handle the specific problems associated with teen drug abuse and mental health issues in Los Angeles, which utilizes the innovative dry heat sweat detox therapy as used in the famed Narconon program. Dr. Islam is the Founder and President of the National Endowment Centers, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to the implementation, education and increase of wealth strategies for the benefit of small non-profits and families in communities across the nation. Her efforts in establishing endowment funds for small profits has increased the assets of inner city non-profits to the tune of more than 30 million dollars in one short year. Dr. Hanan is also the Founder of shrink3sizes.com an agency dedicated to helping men and women shrink their excess body mass by three sizes in 10 minutes with no diet, exercise, surgery or pills. More information on this project of Dr Hanan’s can be found at shrink3sizes.com. She serves as board chair for the Nina M. Kraft Youth Empowerment Program and as secretary for the NAACP Compton Branch. She is an executive council member of Men Who Care, a group promoting positive role models to inner city youth. Islam is an advisory board member of the Compton–Watts Interfaith Council and a board member of the African American Mental Health Coalition. Islam also mentors high-risk girls in her area. She was the founder of the Avalon/El Segundo Primary Care Physicians Medical Group, which delivered mobile health services to Los Angeles County’s drug treatment and homeless services facilities. Islam is a Naturopathic doctor, having received her doctorate in Naturopathic medicine from the Eden Institute. She became a registered addiction specialist, through Breining Institute and is a Metapsychologist certified through the Traumatic Incident Reduction Association. In her spare time she managed to act as campaign manager and strategist for Rev. Alfreddie Johnson’s successful bid for city council in the City of Lynwood in November 2005.
