The COVID-19 pandemic around the world has led to many restrictions regarding travels and the hosting of events and congresses by governments and health authorities.
In an effort to prevent spreading the virus and for the sake of event participants health and safety, we have once decided to postpone the 20th WPA World Congress of Psychiatry, 'Psychiatry in a troubled world' to 2021, hoping to still have the chance to meet all of you face to face.
Unfortunately, the Global situation is still very uncertain, and conditions are still changing unpredictably. However, we cannot allow ourselves to postpone the congress any further. It is essential to WPA to ensure both the professional growth and the safety of the participants.
In light of that the WPA board has decided to transform the 20th WPA World Congress of Psychiatry into a fully virtual event.
The world has changed a lot this last couple of months, and we have nothing else to do but to adapt and to turn this challenge into an opportunity to develop and diversify the way congresses are traditionally held. There have already been several virtual congresses with great success, therefore, we are confident that with enough time and experience on our hands we will manage to give you the excellent professional experience a normal physical meeting would.
By doing this, we are hoping to provide you, our participants, with the exciting program we have developed, to give you the chance to participate in valuable exchange of knowledge and best practices, and together to make our contribution to the field of psychiatry and mental health - all in the comfort and safety of your own home.
The virtual congress will take place on the same dates between 10-13 March 2021. Virtual sessions will not only give you a change for live interaction but will also be available on-demand up to 3 months after the congress.
The WPA would like to thank all our participants and partners for their cooperation and understanding during this time. Despite this difficult situation and the significant investment, the congress represents for the WPA and its partners, we are working hard to ensure that the 20th WPA Virtual Congress of Psychiatry, 'Psychiatry in a troubled world' remains a success.
