Biography:

Titus Schleyer, DMD, PhD, is an internationally known researcher in the field of dental informatics. In 1996, he established the first Department of Dental Informatics in the United States at Temple University. He is currently Associate Professor and Director of the Center for Dental Informatics at the University of Pittsburgh. Since 1997, Titus Schleyer has been one of two recipients of a training grant for dental informatics from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research. Dr. Schleyer conducts research in dental computer applications funded by the National Institutes of Health, and publishes regularly on dental informatics topics in major journals. His research interests cover Internet use in dentistry, computer-based oral health records, collaborative technologies for biomedical research and practice, and quality standards in educational software. He has published 1 book and over 25 peer-reviewed articles in a variety of journals, such as the Journal of the American Dental Association, the Journal of Dental Education, the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association and the European Journal of Dental Education. He was director and program chair for “Dental Informatics and Dental Research: Making the Connection”, the first international, NIH-funded research conference in dental informatics. He is also the Associate Editor for Informatics and Technology for the Journal of the American Dental Association, and a reviewer for several major dental and informatics journals.
